Kobe on the East Coast?

Knick fans, if you really want to have Kobe in a Knick uniform, you have to ask yourself how badly do you want him. If you're willing to give up Curry. then we got a shot. I worked out a trade on the ESPN Trade Machine and this one worked:

Knicks trade: Eddy Curry, Jamal Crawford and Channing Frye and Renaldo Balkman or David Lee for,

Lakers trade: Kobe, Andrew Bynum and Jordan Farmar.

I don't know how else to get Kobe. I was listening to sports radio yesterday and these guys were calling in with some idiotic trades (Mardy Collins, Channing Frye and Steve Francis for Kobe). We would be giving up a lot, but we would get Kobe while he's still in his prime, get a promising big man in Bynum (he's only 20) who some think could develop into a real good center to take the place of Curry. In addition, we would get a true point guard to take over for Steph in a year or two. Personally im a fan of Farmar. He's not much of a scorer, but he knows how to run a team and hes a good athlete. Plus, we would still have a young team to build around Kobe.

They might be willing to do it since they would get one of the only true scoring centers left in the NBA along with an established scoring guard who also happens to have a great chemistry with Curry in Crawford. Plus, Frye or Lee would immediately start for them. They would give away one starter for 3, plus they would get a good, young bench player in Frye or Balkman (depending who we would have to give up). What other package do you see the Knicks being able to put together without giving up Curry? One that the Lakers might actually be willing to accept? Especially if the Bull are willing to give up Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas and Ben Gordon for Kobe.

Other trades:

Theres a rumor that the Celtics are trying to get Garnett for: Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and the 5th pick in this upcoming draft. That kind of sounds tempting.

In the Post today Pete Vecsey is reporting that the Wizards and the Suns are talking about Shawn Marion for Antawn Jamison straight up.

Why don't we just rape the Lakers entirely. The Lakers don't want to give up Bynum and Kobe. I do see your point about Curry needing to be included in order to entice the Lakers but I don't see them doing it. They would basically be trading for a team that couldn't win in the weakened eastern conference for one of the best players in the game. I just don't see it.

I like the Wizards-Suns trade. It's a good one for both teams. Antawn is a good rebounder and he never needs a play called for him.

I don't like the Celtics-'Wolves trade. The Wolves should wait and talk to the Suns about Amare. Which from what I read is a read possibility.

I have to agree with Ed about this Kobe trade. I don't see it happening with the Knicks, not when there are other teams like the Bulls, Celtics and Suns that can offer more players, contracts and draft picks. I would love to have Kobe but what type of team will we have when the air clears? Steph, Kobe and a bunch of role players ain't gonna get it done either.

As much as I love KG, the Celtics would be giving up too much in that deal. I would try to hold on to Jefferson or the 5th pick in that situation. But, as I've said before, KG would be a better fit for the Suns' system and roster. Marion for Jamison isn't bad but it doesn't really put either team over the top.

Ed, I understand what you're, but if the Lakers were to use that train of thought, they would only trade for a couple of starters from a winning team. Most winning teams won't break up they're nucleus. The Bulls would with Deng and Gordon, but they don't want to do it because they don't want to include Deng. They're nuts. Deng is nice and will probab;y progress some more, but to hold up a trade for Kobe because of Deng? Crazy.

The trade for Garnett looks like it might happen. If I were the T-Wolves, i'd definitely make that trade. They're giving up a LOT for Garnett. Im surprised by how much they're willing to give up. Iz said it last night, will they have enough on that team? Yes, Pierce and Wally-World, but how about the rest of the team?

Oh yeah, it looks like Porland is coming dangerously close to blowing up this draft on not drafting Oden. Can you believe it?

Ed,

Don't say rape and Kobe in the same sentence. It gets him nervous.

I dont want Kobe. Yeah, he's nice. Yeah he might be able to take us to the Promised Land. I just really don't like his game from a team stance. Now that Steph has finally become the team player we all wanted him to be, Kobe's ball-lovin' hands are gonna ruin the chemistry this young knick team created last season before the injuries. Besides, the knicks would have to give up so much to get him. Is it really worth it? Kobe hasn't been able to get the lakers to the finals ever since shaq bailed, and the lakers have a decent squad. So what makes anyone think he is the savior for the knicks. The knicks are just looking for a big name to put on thier roster so people buy more tickets. If it were up to me, in my idealistic, fantasy world, I wouldn't give up anyone. Keep the team the way it is and wait until these guys mature and start running the league. Sure it may be when the Kobe's and Duncan's are a little older and shooting fadeaways, but so what.

The only trade package I wouldnt mind the knicks packaging is Francis, Frye, and maybe Robinson (even though I like nate). Those guys are expendable, if not a kink in the chain (in francis). as much as I love nate, ever since Baby Frazier (Collins) emerged, we really don't need him.

Time will tell.
