What's up? Who wants to talk about sprots?

"Hey party people. Its about that time" - Black Moon

I've been away, doing the daddy thing, along with other stuff, which I will be writing about in the future. But anyway, I just had to quickly write about my experience as a father: It's the most unbelievable thing that I've done in my life. I never thought that I would be part of creating such a beautiful creature. She is the reason I put up with crap in the world nowadays. I would even watch hockey for my daughter. That being said...the game did markedly better ratings-wise than it has in the past where it seemed that the NHL literally had to pay people to watch the damn games.

Of course, this doesn't change anything in the grand scheme of the popularity of sports. It will never overtake MLB, the NBA or (lol) the NFL. Nothing beats the NFL. Its one of the 11 Commandments. The NHL has rabid, committed fans who wear mullets and make no bones about their favorite sport or hairstyle. Its about the best thing it has going for it.

"You're a jerk. Go to a game. Its the best". I have. Unfortunately. I went to see a Devils game a few years ago. I thought I stepped into a time machine with all those mullets (not a joke) and hairspray and makeup that the women were wearing was not attractive. I even saw acid wash. Sure it was the late 90's (I believe '99), but it was still not being worn at the time. I honestly sat there mouth agape staring at these people. I don't even remember what the score of the game was. The intermission is too damn long too. Its great if you're drinking a lot of beer and you have a wee little kidney and bladder combo, but if you just want to watch the game to its conclusion, its not too appealing. There are hits, yes. Without a doubt. So that is exciting. To me though, if the game ends in a tie after having to sit through loud Mark Knopfler songs, acid wash (yes, its a noun) and the smell of spilled Budweiser and Aquanet to get to a 1-1 tie. Its just too much for me to experience in one month. Let alone a 3 hour period. Wow, wouldn't life be great if periods were only 3 hours? Anyhoo...

Baseball

Baseball in New York is back, for the most part. The Mets and Yankees were in first place at the same time not too long ago. Since then however, the Mets are in the middle of an almost funny string of injuries. Not Carl Pavano funny (he pulled his butt), but they now think that Carlito Beltran could possibly have the Swine Flu ("La gripe de cerdo" for any Spanish-speaking readers). Despite the run of injuries, and this bodes very well for them, they're still sitting in 2nd place in the East with a record of 28 and 23 just 2.5 games behind of the Phils and +21 run differential. Maybe even worse than the injuries is that Livan Hernandez is your number 5 starter. You know what's worse though? That means that Tim Redding is your number FOUR starter. To be in second place right now is GREAT. Not sarcasm. That's saying something. The thing with their recent history though is that everyone has to hold their breath till the end of the season.

As for the Yankees, they're playing great right now. Yesterday Posada ended their, now all-time record of consecutive games without an error at 18. Now honestly, I don't think the record in and of itself THAT big a deal. Like, if I see someone with a t-shirt that speaks to this record i'll laugh at them and send them back to Jersey (pronounced, "Joisey"). What it does speak to is their defense overall has become significantly better. Has it been that long since the Yanks had a really good fielding 1st baseman? Man, I didn't realize we missed you so much Tino, and really, Donnie Baseball.

Basketball

Wow, im disappointed that Lebron didn' get to the Finals. He's the best player in the world right now. The worst part? This gives those that hate on LBJ (Ed?) ammo to say that Kobe is the best player in the NBA.

This should be an interesting Finals. While I still think that the Lakers will take it because of their advantage in OVERALL talent over the ENTIRE NBA, Orlando has some interesting talent. Or rather, their athletes are hard to defend. They have 2 players on the wing that are about 6'10" that can handle the rock and shoot the 3. If Gasol, Odom and Bynum are forced to play out on the perimeter leaving Dwight in the paint alone with WHOMEVER the Lakers leave on him, hes going to destroy them on the boards and on the scoreboard. It should be interesting.

Do not use "lol" in a sports blog again-especially mid-sentence.

Kobe Bryant is slightly better than Lebron. He's taken his team to the Finals two years in a row.

Kobe does have better talent than most other NBA team. And he led that talented team to the NBA Finals as he was supposed to.

Did Lebron? Nope. The Cav's won 66 games and had the best record in the NBA. What's LBJ's excuse for not getting it done?

Luis M. Espinoza said...

MOST other teams? Name the team, and take Kobe out of the equation if you want, that has MORE talent than the Lakers top to bottom. I'd like to hear the answer.

Orlando had a better team overall and had the matchup problems that I outlined that they will probably give the Lakers. When you have a 6'3" Delonte West guarding a 6'10" guy, its NG (no good).

That and guys, OTHER than LBJ, didn't produce the way that they did during the regular season. Mo Williams got some splainin' to do.

Edwin said...

Dude I was being diplomatic when I used the word "most."

The Lakers were the best team all year and Kobe was the best player on the best team.

Lebron is home, fishing, getting surgery, whatever. The other Cav's didn't produce? So are are you saying it wasn't Lebron's fault they lost? But I thought he makes the other guys on his team better? So what happened?

Luis M. Espinoza said...

In other words. You can't. The best team, record-wise, was the Cavs. Despite not having the OVERWHELMING best roster in the league like the Lakers had. AKA: Shaq's sidekick.

Edwin said...

You can't what?

Face it man, for this seaon and next Kobe wins this debate.(muwahahahah!)

Forget about it, if Kobe's team wins the NBA title the debate will be over. Lebron will have to win a title just to get back in the conversation.

Luis M. Espinoza said...

You can't. As in you can't answer the question that I asked. Name a team - even taking Kobe off the Laker roster - that has a more talented roster than the Lakers.

So if, the Magic win, then Howard is the best player? Is that safe to assume? Thats ANOTHER question Ed.

Edwin said...

Asking questions is a weak attempt at shifting the debate. It shows the weakeness of your position.

Nevertheless I'll answer your questions then sit back and watch as this takes the discussion off the tracks.

Which team has more talent than the Lakers?
The Celtics - 3 future hall of famers on one team, Garnett, Allen, and Pierce.
Magic - Three all-stars Nelson, Lewis, and Howard.
San Antonio - Three all-stars, Duncan, Parker, and Gnobli.
Rockets - T-Mac, Yao, Artest, not mention all of their talented role players.

If Dwight Howard and the Magic win it will not make him the best player. Dwight will still have to get 2 more rings just to catch up to Kobe's 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP-p9i85sNc. D. Howard will be just below Kobe with Dwade as guys that have one ring. That's one more than LBJ.

I hope I've answered your questions. Now back to you regularly scheduled debate.

Glad to see the Cypher going again, fellas. I see things have not changed much. and here's a smiley for Ernie :)

Lou, I agree with you on the hockey tip. I saw a rangers/red wings game years ago. I never heard The Garden 'boo' so loud as when they introduced "Your NEW YORK RANGERS!!" You would have thought Reggie Miller was on the rangers. I remember the smell of bud (wiser, that is). I remember the little pee wee game in between periods was much more exciting than the actual game that the Rangers ended up losing 9-0. yes, 9. N-I-N-E. I didn't even know hockey went that far up (this was way before the new 'try to make hockey better' rules).

The whole Kobe/Lebron debate I'll have to comment on later. It will take too much time right now and I have to work.

Luis M. Espinoza said...

Well hell. Thats relevant Ed. I forgot, its only about the ring. Horry must be hands-down better than Kobe. I see. It doesnt even matter when the ring was won either? So Bill Russel is STILL a better player than Kobe is TODAY. Oh. Well that makes sense. Puppets are now making more sense than you Ed. Puppets.

Celtics? Maybe, since the development of Rondo. Although even with Garnett, they are still considerably weaker than the Lakers on the frontline.

Hughes is going to the bullpen starting today. Wang to the rotation starting tomorrow.

Andre said...

Well, I was going to make the same point about rings and greatness that Luis just stated, 'cept maybe a tad less sarcastic. but I think we have to remember in all this debate that no one person is bigger than the game. kobe, lbron, jordan, whoever... unless you are playing tennis or boxing your success is going to depend on your teammates. Basketball is a sport where one player CAN mean the difference between win or lose. ONe player can take the game over, but if we're talking about championships, we need to remember the so called 'supporting casts' of those great players. Individually, in order to truly have the lebron/kobe debate, we should lay down some criteria. come up with a rubric and put them both to the test. Let's come up with some categories that would show a broad spectrum of attributes/deficiencies and be sure to include off the court stuff.

by the way, how do you feel about lebron's antics after losing, as far as dissing the media and shit. That was kinda childish.

Guys, we all need to hit Yankee stadium. Its dope. And I just heard at home games they are going to have two players and/or execs greeting fans as they enter the main gate. Today, Girardi and Cashmen did it.

Luis M. Espinoza said...

Well you know me Dre, I can't help myself.

We did have a rubric: PER. And then Ed submitted another one. The thing was, in every measurable statistical way, Lebron is better. Then if you take into account that Kobe is the only one that had to get Shaq traded out of town, if you want to include off the court stuff, then Lebron is better there too. If you give Lebron Bynum or Gasol this is over. If you gime him both? Not even a debate.

Edwin said...

Actually, if I remember correctly the rubric was never agreed upon. What was discussed in our emails was that Lebron had a better statical year than Kobe. But when it came to career numbers, awards, and rings it wasn't even close. Lebron was blown out of the water.

Lu, I don't know why you are still waving the Lebron flag. Especially since he's home and Kobe is still playing.

Luis M. Espinoza said...

Like I said, the resume is irrelevant. Its what the guy is doing NOW. Lebron doesnt have nearly the talent around him that Kobe does. Kobe better make the Finals with the most talented team, top to bottom, in the NBA. The teams you mentioned have as talented a team WITHOUT Kobe. If you put Kobe into the equation, it isnt even close.

Arent you the same guy that was touting Nash as the best player in the league?

Edwin said...

Yes Sir, I was. And 2 MVP's voted on by the Basketball writers association says that I was on the right side of that one.

What side were you on?

And if we are judging these things by what you've done lately. Well... Kobe is still playing. Lebron is home.

Luis M. Espinoza said...

Oh no, no, no. Ed, you cant have it both ways. Nash didn't have a ring and didn't have the resume that Duncan or Kobe had. So, what are you talking about? You just told yourself youre wrong. Little puppet (pronounced, "puh-peh").

Edwin said...

Did you see Kobe's dominating performance last night. He is not playing around this time. He's is going to finish the job.

BTW, did you know this marks the 6th time Kobe has been in the finals?

As for dismissing his accomplishments, you can't take away the fact that Kobe has won 3 rings. And trying to diminsh the fact that he has 3 by saying he won them with Shaq is silly. Shaq won his rings because he played with Kobe and D-Wade. It doesn't change the fact that he has 4 rings nor does it diminish the accomplishment.

Let me put it this way. One of the reasons Shaq is considered a great Center is because he won Championships. Without those rings he would not be in the convo with Russel, Chamberland, Hakeem, & Kareem. Do we try and diminsh Shaq's greatness by saying, "Oh he shouldn't be in the convo because he won his rings with Kobe."

No we don't and we shouldn't do it with for KB.

As for Steve Nash, you also can't take away that for two years he was playing some of the best basketball in the NBA. What he the best player in the league? No, I would not say that. But he played great and deserved those two MVP's.

Just like Lebron deserved his this year. So to wrap up, you can't dismiss KB's accomplishments when discussing who's the best player in the game. Now that LBJ has an MVP award his fans will use that as evidence that he is the best player in the game. Just like Kobe 's fans will use his accomplishments. KB just has more by virtue of having played more years.

Luis M. Espinoza said...

Ed, what you say is valid. But if your fallback is always going to be, "hes won rings". Thats always in the past and while playing with a top FIVE center of all-time. Maybe top 7? If youre going to bring up that he won rings, again in the past, then Shaq has to be brought up.

Kobe is great. No one is saying any different. I just still think that LBJ is the best player in the NBA. And the craziest part about all of this is that if you had the type of physical talent that they had, you would play like LBJ and not Kobe. You'd be one mangu-eating Lebron player.

Big win again from los Yankees.

Andre said...

First of all, I didn't know lyndon B. johnson was playing basketball now.

Second, let's not forget that Kobe has been in the league a lot longer than Lebron, so you can't compare careers. Let Lebron play for 10 seasons, give him a second star and he's up there with kobe stats. To say kobe doesn't need help to win a championship is to diminish what guys like shaq and now, Gasol, meant for his game. There is no doubt Kobe is an amazing player, as well as lebron, but there will never be a definitive answer to who's better until they are both retired.

Melky is basically spitting in the faces of all those who wanted to see him back in the minors. Let's go to a game. What's up?

Hi there!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of financial piramyde, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I earn money with the help of these programs.
I don't have problems with money now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I make 2G daily, and my first investment was 500 dollars only.
Right now, I'm very close at catching at last a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Turn to my blog to get additional info.
